The Master Certificate Scheme
Recognising excellence

The livery movement supports and promotes apprenticeship in all its forms and has done since mediaeval times. The certificate was introduced in 2001 with a Master Plumber certificate, which recognised trade skills and excellence as opposed to academic achievement. The scheme has flourished and is now led by the CLG (Construction Livery Group). As a group of 22 liveries, we represent many different companies in the built environment. We are most grateful to the Lord/Lady Mayor and Sheriffs for their support for the prize giving and the annual event at Mansion House continues to prove very popular. It is with enormous pride that we watch recipients achieve their awards cheered on by family, friends and employers. Working with the City and Guilds has allowed us to expand the scheme and last year we welcomed new categories for those who train the next generation. This allows more unsung teachers to be recognised and to achieve public acclaim.
