The CLG's Timeline

1988
The CLG was formed during a meeting of the Associated Livery Companies.
2001
​The Master Plumber Certificate Scheme was introduced in partnership with City & Guilds.
2002
The proposal for establishing a Master Certificate Group was discussed.
2003
Peter Olley became the Honorary Secretary.
2006
Paul Lacey briefly served as Chairman before Hugh Ogus took over, revitalising the CLG and establishing a Master Certificate Task Group. Meetings were held at Carpenters' Hall and Building Crafts College.
2007
CLG partnered with LCSC to advance the MCS concept within the wider Livery.
2008
The Master Certificate recommendations were endorsed, and the first Apprentice and Journeyman Certificates were awarded.
2009
Bob Craig briefly served as Chairman before Hugh Ogus returned for another term. John Saysell became the Honorary Secretary.
2010
The first joint presentation of Apprentice, Journeyman, and Master Certificates took place.
2011
The Lord Mayor presented the Certificates for the first time.
2012
Tom Barton became Chairman. The Lord Mayor continued to present certificates, and the Master Certificate was awarded to Walter Balmford for his lifetime commitment to education and the Livery.
2013
​Certificates were presented, including a Master Certificate to Hugh Ogus for his outstanding contribution to MCS Development and his work in lighting design and electrical engineering. Four more Livery Companies joined the scheme.
2015
Three more companies joined the scheme.
2016
The Lord Mayor presented Apprentice and Journeyman certificates to two outstanding apprentices from the Livery Companies Apprenticeship Scheme Pilot.
2017
Certificates were awarded across twelve Livery Companies by the Lord Mayor.
2018
Two new companies joined the scheme, and the Lord Mayor presented certificates, including LCAS apprentice completions from 2016 and 2017. The LCSC celebrated its 25th anniversary.
2019
City & Guilds participated in their Livery Company Prize Giving. One new company joined the Master Certificate Scheme. Tony Ward became the new Chairman.
2020
The ceremony was held at Mansion House for the first time, with presentations from the Lord Mayor, Alderman Sir William Russell with the Sheriffs in attendance.
2022
The Master Certificate Scheme presentations were held, again, in the Mansion House in the presence of the Lord Mayor, Alderman Vincent Keaveny, CBE.
2023
Another successful Master Certificate Scheme presentation ceremony was held with speeches given by The Lord Mayor of London, The Rt.Hon. Alderman Sir Nicholas Lyons, Kirsty Donnelly MBE , CEO of City and Guilds and Tony Ward, Chairman of the Construction Livery Group.
2024
The Construction Liveries Group held its first symposium at the Guildhall, "The London Skyline 2030", introduced by Rt Hon Alderman Michael Mainelli, Lord Mayor.
The Master Certificate Scheme presentation ceremony was again conducted by the Lord Mayor, Alderman Alderman Professor Michael Mainelli.
The Worshipful Company of Water Conservators became the 19th Livery Company to join the CLG.
